Frequently Asked Questions
Why shop Beheld?
At Beheld, our mission is to reimagine and elevate the current market offering of artwork curated for young people’s spaces. By shopping Beheld, you step away from anonymous, mass-produced pieces, you support independent Artists, and you build a collection of unique artworks that (we hope) you will want to keep forever.
Is Beheld artwork just for kids' spaces?
While our collections are curated in look and feel to be appropriate for young people’s spaces, we have attracted customers and end-collectors of all ages. Our focus is on timeless, unique pieces that we believe can transcend life-stage, and reach full circle to the next generation. Art (you) and your kids won’t outgrow!
What is a limited edition?
A limited edition reproduction is produced at a certain specification in a limited number of copies, numbered and signed by the Artist. The number of editions is fixed, and once the edition is sold out, no more are produced. The value of a limited edition is generally considered to be higher than that of an open edition because of its scarcity.
What is an original artwork?
Original artwork refers to any artwork considered to be the first authentic example of the Artist’s piece. There is only one in existence, and you can be assured it is unique.
What is a certificate of authenticity?
A certificate of authenticity is a written document that attests to an artwork’s authenticity. Think of it as an identity document for your art, serving as an official guarantee of its origin and specifications, such as the Artist’s name, the title and dimensions of the piece, and whether it is an original artwork or a limited/open edition.
Beheld issues certificates of authenticity signed by our founder for every piece of artwork sold. We print our certificates of authenticity in a sticker format, so you can choose to affix it to the back of your artwork once it is framed, or simply keep it for your records.
What kind of paper and ink is used in reproductions?
Beheld works with the only Hahnemuehle, Canson and Epson Digigraphie-certified printing bureau in Canada, creating fine art digital inkjet reproductions using archival pigment inks and cotton rag papers from paper mills in Germany, France, Italy, and Japan. Depending on the piece and the original medium of the artwork, watercolour or coated papers may be used, with various textures, from ultra-smooth to heavily toothed. These are fine art reproductions, not posters!
Does my artwork come framed?
Artwork is unframed unless otherwise purchased. If you would like to receive your artwork framed, please select one of the framing options before adding the artwork to your cart for checkout.
Frames are offered in white, black and natural wood formats. All frames are hand-built by our professional framing partner, with UV-filtering acrylic glass to prevent breakage in transit. Artworks are framed with a single acid-free white mat, acid-free foamcore backing, and hanging hardware, including wire and/or D-rings, depending on the size of the artwork. The back of the frame is taped to limit dust and moisture exposure. Framed artwork arrives ready to hang!
