Quvianaqtuk Pudlat
Born in 1962 in Kinngait, Nunavut, Quvianaqtuk Pudlat’s parents were both printmaking artists and his grandfather Simeonie Quppapik was a well-known artist, printmaker and typographer. For many years, Quvianaqtuk was a well-respected sculptor, and his carvings of animals and birds are in many fine collections.
As an eager observer of nature, and as a hunter, Pudlat intimately understands the physical characteristics, movement, and behaviours of Arctic wildlife. During the spring, he travels forty kilometers from Kinngait to his remote cabin, where he spends time with this family fishing and bird watching. Pudlat’s artwork has been part of the Annual Cape Dorset Printmaking Collection since 2017.
